He never won an Oscar and wasn't always a crowd favorite. His filmography is short and uneven. Yet, many cinephiles and major contemporary filmmakers—like Tarantino and Scorsese—claim Sam Peckinpah as an influence. What was missing was a book capable of encompassing his entire body of work. From New Mexico to The Osterman Weekend, three lengthy critical essays chronologically revisit his complete oeuvre, divided into three periods: classical, modern, and postmodern. These are complemented by a study of his television work, short accounts of film shoots, and interviews, including one with Peckinpah himself, previously unpublished in French. Lavishly illustrated and in color, the book will be released to coincide with a comprehensive retrospective of the filmmaker's work at the Cinémathèque Française.

Exclusively in French.
