The Cléo Reader: 2013-2019

$20.00

cléo journal was a publication dedicated to film and film culture and informed by intersectional feminist perspectives, which was published three times a year from 2013 to 2019.

The journal takes its name from the protagonist of Agnès Varda’s "Cléo from 5 to 7" (1962), who comes to self-realization through the observation and mastering of her space. In the spirit of Varda’s film, cléo journal was an open space for emerging and established writers to address issues of film and feminisms.

"the cléo reader: 2013-2019" is a celebration of some of the best writing that was published in the journal over the course of its six years and features new introductions by Kiva Reardon, Anne T. Donahue, Fariha Róisín, Lulu Wang and artwork by Jazzmyn Coker. It was made possible by a generous donation from director Barry Jenkins ("Moonlight", "If Beale Street Could Talk").

Broken into three sections--Comedy, Tender and Genre--"the cléo reader: 2013-2019" features writing by: Mallory Andrews, Angelica Jade Bastién, Julia Cooper, Kelley Dong, Sarah Hagi, Willow Maclay, So Mayer, Lydia Ogwang, Justine Smith, and more!

Keke Palmer is an Emmy Award–winning actress, singer/songwriter, host, producer, author, and passionate voice of the millennial generation. Keke starred in Jordan Peele’s Universal Pictures summer blockbuster Nope and hosted NBC’s reboot ofPassword with Jimmy Fallon, which had the most-watched new, unscripted series premiere of the summer across the broadcast networks. She is the CEO of KeyTV―a digital network dedicated to spotlighting a new generation of diverse creators and democratizing the entertainment industry―and the record label Big Bosses Entertainment.
